What does this mean?
We are taught at an early age to color within the lines or that a tree can’t possibly be pink (left brain, linear and analytical thoughts) Which is a very stifling way to view the world and can be very limiting emotionally. Everyone is born with intuition (right brain, creative and emotional thoughts) which is closely linked to creativity. Painting is a form of creativity and self expression. Painting intuitively is like being in a meditative state (while being fully awake and aware) Mediation promotes relaxation, health and general well being.
This process painting style I am offering, gives one the freedom to express themselves using intuition and emotion though acrylic paints and abstract technique. To be free of judgments, to turn off the ever critical left side of the brain and to have fun with the process. (Why not paint some trees pink?)
We are not intending to create planned out masterpieces in these classes but you never know what you may end up with.
No prior painting/drawing experience is required, just the interest in being open minded and the desire to express yourself. Our goal is to let the painting develop from within, not from a still life of props. I hope to promote positive growth though teaching this form of art.
This beginning class “Meaningful Collage” will be a month long exercise in basic meditation and basic mixed media art. The tone will be to create something in a whimsical format. We will meet for 2 1/2hours, once a week. Bring the right side of your brain and a notebook/journal and pen/pencil. Please also bring something meaningful to put into our first basic painting. A photocopied copy of a handwritten poem, quote, letter or an old recipe card. Something from someone you care about, a passed on loved one or a child. (Please no originals) Art materials will be provided within the cost of class. The goal of this class is to learn to let go of all pre-judgements about not being creative or being fearful, to learn basic meditation and relax, gain some knowledge on charkas to have fun learning basic techniques and exploring art. This painting will serve as a positive reminder of what you can create.
Everyone can be creative, whether you believe it or not.
Why not let your “inner child” out to play, which will relieve stress and promote happiness.
Learn to paint from your soul; from the right, emotional and creative side of your brain. To get rid of the inner and annoying critic.
Learn a form of meditation and an emotional freeing exercise. Encourage that there is no right or wrong way to paint, it is about the process, not the outcome.

What is intuitive painting?
Intuitive Painting by definition is a creative practice that releases impulses usually stifled by the inner critic (ego), left side / logical part of the brain to make a work of art. I believe this is a spiritual experience that can help free the mind and heal the soul simply by learning to let go. This originated from art therapy.
